Texas A&M Introduces Mobile Web Site For Smart Phone Users

mobile phones display the TAMU appTexas A&M University introduces TAMUmobile Web – a mobile website optimized for easy access to popular campus services and information from any cellular phone or mobile device. Mobile users can access TAMUmobile Web from any mobile device by typing http://m.tamu.edu into their mobile browsers.

TAMUMobile Web provides mobile access to the university calendar, campus bus schedules, campus directory, the university library, a student organization search and more. The information is formatted for quick and easy navigation on mobile and cellular devices with a Web browser and Internet access.

Jason Cook, vice president of marketing and communications at Texas A&M, praised the new offering.

“Our team has done a tremendous job in evaluating our primary Web presence at www.tamu.edu and reducing it down to essential information for students, faculty, staff and guests that is easily displayed on a mobile device,” he said. “The site is fast-loading and easy to use, which fits the mobile lifestyle that people live today. We expect Texas A&M’s presence on the Web and in the mobile arena to continue to expand as communications and technology advance and evolve.”

Erick Beck, director of web development at Texas A&M, said TAMUmobile Web is another step toward freeing students from their desks when they need information.

“Our most requested service by students is providing mobile access to the campus bus schedules,” he said. “We will be expanding TAMUmobile Web to include other popular services to meet the needs of our students.”

TAMUmobile Web is the latest mobile offering in a complete TAMUmobile package that includes a mobile website and a suite of applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch.  All Texas A&M mobile options are available for download at http://www.tamu.edu/mobile/.

“TAMUmobile Web is another example of Texas A&M taking a leadership role with mobile technology,” said Diane C. McDonald, associate director of marketing and communications. “Texas A&M was the first university in Texas to launch iTunes U in 2007.  In 2009, we were the first public university in the nation to launch TAMUmobile Apps in the iTunes Store. Now, in 2010, TAMUmobile Web is another step in our long-term strategy to make our campus accessible to anyone on the go.”
