COLLEGE STATION, May 6, 2010 – Texas A&M’s Delta Gamma President, Sarah Williams ‘11, recently presented Texas A&M Foundation President Ed Davis with a check for $100,000 for the Delta Gamma Lectureship in Values and Ethics.
The event at the Delta Gamma Chapter House in College Station celebrated the establishment of the Delta Gamma Foundation Lectureship in Values and Ethics at Texas A&M University, and in attendance were representatives from the Texas A&M Foundation, including Davis and Student Affairs Development Officer Cindy Brown Munson, as well as the Delta Gamma Foundation’s Director of Lectureships in Values and Ethics, Barbara Gerow Broyles.
Munson shared that the Division of Student Affairs “is excited about this gift and its impact on our students. Our hope is that it will serve as a catalyst for other Greek organizations and student organizations in general, to continue their tradition of giving,” she noted.
The Delta Gamma Foundation contributed $50,000 from the Foundation funds to match the $50,000 that had been raised by the local Delta Gamma chapter. This $100,000 endowment will provide funds in perpetuity to host speakers in an event that will be open to the public. Some of the previous speakers at Delta Gamma lectureships across the country include Queen Noor, Barbara Bush, Madeline Albright, Maya Angelou, President Gerald Ford, Colin Powell and Jeff Probst.
Delta Gamma Lectureships in Values and Ethics were established in 1992 when Dr. Paul Martin and his wife, Dotty, contributed three $50,000 grants to the Foundation in recognition of their 50th wedding anniversary. The Martins committed to providing additional funds for a total of fourteen lectureships. There are currently 13lectureships across the country and the lectureship at Texas A&M University will be the 14thand final one from their gift.
